Tavo Pets, a rising star in the pet product world, has quickly gained traction with its innovative and high-quality products.
Their flagship product, the Maeve Pet Protection System, is a game-changer for pet travel, seamlessly combining a cosy bed, a convenient carrier, and a super secure car seat. Plus when used with the Roscoe™ stroller frame, it's a pet stroller.
It probably won't surprise you that Tavo Pets is a sister company to Nuna, an established brand known for modern and smartly designed baby products.
They've used their expertise in design, engineering and safety to create a range of pet products that are both stylish and reliable.
They're recent winners of the prestigious Red Dot Award 2024 - one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design.
Importantly the Maeve Pet Protection System has been put through its paces at dynamic testing facilities. Tavo benchmark the performance of their system against the latest United Nations ECE child restraint standard (R129).
So crucially, this is one of the safest ways to transport your dog in the car.
We love that whilst it's a super safe car seat, the carrier can be used as a bed at your destination. This makes it an ideal product to accompany you and your pup on adventures away from home.

Tavo Maeve Pet Protection System Review : Unboxing & Set Up
Whilst it's fairly straightforward to put together, don't expect an instruction booklet, instead there's a QR code on the car seat tag which takes you to their website. From there you'll need to select the Product Manual from the product page.
Once you've found the Product Manual online, it's easy-peasy to put the car seat together and install the vehicle base in your car.
First things first, you must install the dedicated base in your vehicle. This base incorporates safety features inspired by premium child car seats, ensuring maximum protection for your dog during travel.
Designed to slot into the ISOFIX points in your car seats., we liked that there's a green indicator on the base so you know it's installed correctly.
Cleverly, the The Tavo Pet Protection System has been engineered in such a way that it is almost impossible to install the seat incorrectly thus maximising the safety of your dog.
It's worth mentioning it's designed to be flexible with a sliding base and an adjustable stability leg, so can fit any car.
If you're wondering about the stability leg, it's designed to decreases rotation and keeps the carrier anchored properly.
Once the Vehicle Base is installed, it's time to turn your attention to the car seat itself. For maximum protection in case of a crash, ensure the Side Impact Protection (SIP) cover is securely attached over the canopy.
This innovative feature, utilising Tailor tech™ memory foam, attaches directly to the car seat frame. The SIP cover absorbs energy in the event of a side-impact collision, enhancing your pet's safety.
Crucially, remember to install the SIP cover on the side of the car seat closest to the car door.
Once the SIP Cover is in place, the car seat simply clicks into the base. We loved that there's another handy 'green' indicator to let you know it's installed correctly.
With the base and the car seat in place, you're ready to go.
The canopy must stay closed when the car's in motion, but Tavo Pets have thought of everything so there's a clever mesh ventilation panel to ensure plenty of air flow plus your dog gets a view of you too!
One key point to remember, because your dog is inside the pet carrier they are fully protected, you don't need to attach your dog to the car with a harness or seat belt lead.
This Maeve car seat is like a cocoon for your puppy. We adore the simplicity of this system for transporting puppies as they often suffer with anxiety in cars, and let's face it wrestling with a harness can be a real struggle. The Maeve eliminates this hassle, allowing puppies to relax and settle in comfortably without the need for any additional restraints. |

Unlike many other pet products we've tested over the years, the Tavo collection breaks the mold by placing an unwavering emphasis on safety.
Like the Thule Allex dog crate we tested last year, both companies have brought their extensive expertise to dog travel providing a safe haven for your furry friend.
Let's face it, if you know your dog is safe and comfortable, you can focus on the road and enjoy the journey together.
Designed in a range of stunning colours, the Maeve comes with not one but two machine washable liners and mattress sets making a cosy car bed for your dog.
The first is a durable fabric which colour matches your chosen exterior colour. The second option (shown above) is a cream super soft plush material which creates that inviting den-like space for the most anxious of dogs.
The canopy has been meticulously designed with both style and safety in mind. Fully flexible, it can be opened at either end with a mesh section for ventilation and a peek-a-boo slot too so you can keep an eye on your furry friend.
There are lots of premium vegan leather accents for that touch of luxury plus thoughtfully, two leads of different lengths for use with the stroller.

While the Small Flex has plenty of room inside and fits smaller breeds and puppies, the Medium Rigid has maximum capacity and is ideal for slightly larger breeds.
We tested the Tavo Maeve Protection System with several dogs, the largest being Freddie our 12.5kg Cockapoo, and he had enough room to curl up.
So did we find any downsides ? The honest answer - yes, a couple of points to consider but we don't feel that they're dealbreakers.
Think carefully about the size. Whilst we were delighted that the Medium Rigid model was big enough for our Cockapoo to travel in, we were surprised that it took up the equivalent of two car seats.
If you choose the Medium Flex or Rigid models you would only have enough space for one passenger in the back.
The second consideration would have to be weight. There's no way we would choose to carry Freddie in the Maeve to the car, or from the car to the stroller - it would simply be to heavy and cumbersome, nearly 20 kg including our dog.

When you reach your destination, the Maeve car seat seamlessly transitions into a stroller when attached to the Roscoe chassis.
While dog strollers might not be something you've considered before, they offer incredible benefits for many dogs -

Looking incredibly modern and stylish, the Roscoe chassis has some cool features of its own with multi-terrain suspension, stable navigation, a lightweight construction, puncture-proof tires and swivel and lockable wheels.
You can use the stroller with or without the canopy which opens on either side for customisable space. It's worth mentioning that the canopy fabric is UPF 50+, the maximum sun protective rating achievable for fabrics.
We'd recommend using one of the supplied leads to secure to your dog's harness whilst in the stroller, you don't want them jumping out mid-walk.
There's also a one-touch brake system for control, letting you park the stroller safely and easily with a single touch.
Incredibly lightweight, in testing we found the Roscoe stroller easy to manoeuvre and it's packed with premium features, including a quick one-hand, compact fold, so you can stroll anywhere together then collapse it easily to slot into your car boot.
But our favourite feature has to be the push bar organiser it's a practical masterpiece. It features a dedicated cup holder for your coffee, a convenient slot for your phone, and a magnetically sealed compartment for treats, keeping them safe from eager paws. Everything you need is within easy reach.
Need to carry more? The stroller's spacious basket can accommodate up to 4.5kg, providing ample room for extra essentials or even a few treats for yourself.

If you're simply looking for a car seat, you could go for a Luther Bennett Dog Pod, which costs significantly less.
Admittedly, the Travel Dog Pod lacks the crash-tested safety features of the Tavo Maeve Protection System, however, what's undeniable is that it looks beautiful and it will double as a dog bed at your destination.
